Turn Your Phone into a 900° Truck Steering Wheel for ETS2

Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2) is widely celebrated as one of the most immersive and relaxing vehicle simulators in PC gaming. However, navigating heavy cargo trailers through narrow mountain passes, tight European cities, and multi-lane roundabouts using a keyboard or mouse can feel frustratingly abrupt and unnatural.

Dedicated physical racing wheel setups (such as the Logitech G29, G923, or Thrustmaster T300) can cost anywhere from $250 to over $500. If you want the authentic feel of smooth analog steering, progressive pedals, and customizable dashboard switches without the heavy price tag, RojX is the ideal solution.

With RojX, your smartphone becomes an authentic 900° virtual steering wheel featuring responsive gyro tilt, analog throttle and brake sliders, cockpit camera controls, and custom buttons for your headlights, wipers, and air horn.

Why Play Euro Truck Simulator 2 with RojX?

  • 900° Gyro Steering: Realistic analog wheel rotation.
  • Progressive Pedals: Precise throttle and braking control.
  • In-Cab Camera Stick: Smooth mirror and intersection checks.
  • Save $300+: High-end simulation feel on zero hardware budget.

Prerequisites & Initial Controller Check

Before launching Euro Truck Simulator 2, ensure your phone and PC are connected and recognized by Windows:

1. Run RojX on PC

Launch the RojX PC Receiver utility from your desktop or system tray.

2. Connect RojX Mobile

Open RojX on your phone and pair via same Wi-Fi network or USB cable.

3. Check Windows (joy.cpl)

Verify the virtual controller status in Windows Game Controllers.

How to verify your controller in Windows:

Press Win + R on your keyboard, type joy.cpl, and press Enter. You will see the virtual game controller created by RojX listed with an "OK" status.

Step-by-Step In-Game Setup Guide for ETS2

1

Add the Virtual Controller in ETS2 Controls Menu

Launch Euro Truck Simulator 2, select your driver profile, and click on Options at the bottom of the screen, then navigate to Controls.

  • At the top of the Controls page, look at the Input Devices dropdown menu.
  • Click the dropdown and ensure both Keyboard and all virtual controllers created by RojX are added and active.
2

Configure Controller Subtype & Transmission

Directly below the input devices section, configure the controller mode:

Controller Subtype: Wheel

Set Controller Subtype to Wheel. This tells the physics engine to treat inputs as a real steering wheel rather than an arcade thumbstick, providing authentic counter-steering physics.

Transmission: Simple / Real Automatic

Choose Simple Automatic (forward pedal drives, reverse pedal brakes and reverses) or Real Automatic if you prefer toggling between Drive, Neutral, and Reverse.

3

Map the Steering Wheel Axis

Scroll down to the Steering Axis row in the Controls menu:

  • Click directly on the primary button next to Steering Axis.
  • Turn or tilt the steering wheel on your phone in the RojX app.
  • Verify that the yellow progress bar immediately responds in real time as you turn left and right.
  • Set Steering Deadzone to 0% (slider fully to the left) so every micro-movement of your phone wheel is captured.
4

Map Acceleration & Brake Pedals (Set Mode to Normal!)

This is the most critical configuration step demonstrated in the tutorial video:

Important Note on Axis Mode:

By default, ETS2 may configure pedal axes as Inverted. This causes your truck to launch at full throttle immediately upon starting the engine! Ensure you change both axis modes to Normal as shown below.

Acceleration Axis

  • Click Acceleration Axis in ETS2.
  • Press the gas/throttle slider on your phone.
  • Set Axis Mode to: Normal.
  • Set Deadzone to: 0%.

Brake Axis

  • Click Brake Axis in ETS2.
  • Press the brake slider on your phone.
  • Set Axis Mode to: Normal.
  • Set Deadzone to: 0%.
5

Map Cockpit Camera Joystick Axes

To look around your cabin, check side mirrors, and spot approaching traffic:

Look Up / Down Axis

  • Click Look Up/Down Axis.
  • Move your phone's camera joystick vertically.
  • Set Deadzone to: 10% – 12% (this prevents unwanted vertical tilting while checking mirrors horizontally).

Look Left / Right Axis

  • Click Look Left/Right Axis.
  • Move your phone's camera joystick horizontally.
  • Set Deadzone to: 0% for instant mirror glances.
6

Map Keys & Buttons with the Search Feature

Head to Options → Keys & Buttons. Use the convenient search bar at the top to quickly locate and assign each truck control to your virtual buttons:

Camera Views (Search: "camera"):
  • Interior Camera (Camera 1): Click and press your assigned cab view button on RojX.
  • Chasing Camera (Camera 2): Click and press your assigned exterior chase view button on RojX.
Essential Truck Dashboard Controls:
Engine Start / Stop: Key E
Parking Brake: Key Space
Left Indicator: Key [
Right Indicator: Key ]
Headlights: Key L
High Beams: Key K
Horn / Air Horn: Key H / N
Wipers: Key P

Pro Settings for the Best Driving Feel

To make your virtual truck wheel handle like a real 18-wheeler, tweak these sliders in Options → Controls:

1. Steering Non-Linearity (Set to Low / 10%)

Keeping non-linearity low preserves 1:1 true rotation between your phone tilt and the truck cab wheel, making backing into docking bays and lane centering feel natural.

2. Steering Sensitivity (Set to 60% – 75%)

Adjust sensitivity to balance high-speed highway stability with sufficient agility for tight depot turns and mountain hairpins.

3. Pair with Free AI Head Tracking

For the ultimate simulation experience, combine your RojX virtual steering wheel with our free AI Head Tracking! Follow our guide on How to Use Head Tracking with RojX to check mirrors simply by turning your head.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my truck accelerate immediately when starting the engine?

This happens when the Acceleration Axis or Brake Axis mode is set to Inverted in ETS2. Go to Options → Controls and change the axis mode for both pedals to Normal.

Does this setup also work for American Truck Simulator (ATS)?

Yes, 100%! American Truck Simulator runs on the exact same engine and control system as Euro Truck Simulator 2. You can follow this exact guide step-by-step in ATS.

Can I connect my phone via USB cable instead of Wi-Fi?

Yes. If you are gaming on a laptop while traveling or don't have a local Wi-Fi router, plug your phone into your PC via USB cable and enable USB tethering for ultra-stable connection with zero latency.

Can I customize the positions and sizes of the buttons on my phone?

Yes! In the RojX mobile app, open the layout editor to rearrange controls, make the steering wheel larger, add extra macro toggles, or move pedals to your preferred thumb position.
